I never had a skincare routine growing up. I think the main reason why is because I didn't know I was supposed to. My face was pretty clear as a teenager and young adult. I would wash my face with hand soap and put sunscreen on or regular lotion, and occasionally use apricot scrub.
Around my senior year of college I broke out with adult acne. It was mild initially, nothing too crazy. I still continued with my (non) skin routine. Then after graduation my face got worse, and I was trying to figure out how to take care of my skin and get it back to normal. This led me to become a beauty junkie over the years. I love going to Sephora and Ulta to try new products, but over the last year I’ve been working on simplifying my skincare routine.
Even though I have oily skin I don’t play about keeping it moisturized, especially now that its cold outside and we have to wear a mask, which can irritate the skin around the mouth and nose. Also, moisturizing keeps the skin soft, supple, and youthful. Moisturizing and exfoliating are the most important steps in my skincare routine to me.
Here are my favorite products to prevent dry skin and aren't too heavy to use day and night.
1. Laneige Cream Skin (use after washing my face and toning)
I was skeptical about this initially, but the guy working at Sephora showed me how it works on my skin, and I was sold. Its been a game changer for my routine ever since. Sometimes I like to skip my other toners, but I always use this one. I just pour a few drops in my hand and gently push it into my cheeks, forehead, nose, chin, and under my neck. Let it sink in for a minute before adding my serum or just put my moisturizer on.
2. Sephora Collection Ultra Glow Serum: Glow and Vitamin C+E serum (before moisturizing)
When I first tried this I wasn't impressed by it because its kind of like a dry oil. I tried other serums and they were actually sticky and expensive. This bottle is like $20, plus you don't have to buy vitamin c too because it already includes it. My skin feels supple and soft too. Its also a clean beauty product.
3. Laneige water sleeping mask (at night, on top of moisturizer)
Like the cream skin I wasn't sure I needed this until the same guy explained to me how and what its used for. Basically, it goes on top on my moisturizer at night. Its very light and almost watery. It can be a little sticky until it sinks in. The reason its good is because in New York the heat is controlled by the building and can be drying. Its just an extra layer of moisture to get you through the night. I prefer to be extra shiny and moisturized at night. I believe if your face ain't shiny after your night routine, what is you doing baby?!
4. Hyaluronic Acid cream (moisturizer)
The main event. Its a necessity regardless if I decide to use the other products that day. I like to have both high and low prices versions of hyaluronic acid moisturizers to use. I love how lightweight they are, but very moisturizing at the same time. They're typically lightly or no fragrance in them which my skin also loves. I use Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel cream and Laneige water bank moisture cream.
